Karen Dantzler

Lori Belilove and Company 007bKaren joined the Company in 1991. Originally from Berkeley, California, she began her dance training at the San Francisco Ballet School. She also trained with the Dallas Ballet Academy and at Jacob's Pillow. In 1990, Karen received a BFA in Dance from New York University - Tisch School of the Arts. She has performed with independent choreographers in New York City including Anita Willoughby, The Kate Thomas Dance Company, Junko Kukuchi and Margaret Velez. She was also a member of the Doris Humphrey Repertory Dance Company for the 1995 Centennial season of Humphrey's birth.

Karen has toured with the Company internationally to Europe, Mexico and Canada, and nationally to San Francisco and Dayton, Ohio. She has assisted Lori in Master Classes and Lecture Demonstrations at various universities and is currently teaching beginning level Duncan classes at the Isadora Duncan Foundation. She also teaches Duncan movement for children at B. Muse Dance Center for Children in New York.

Karen works as a personal trainer with her own clientele and enjoys incorporating Duncan movement experience into her personalized workouts. Karen also studies the Pilates technique with Jessica Fadem, floor barre with Pamela Pribisco, modern class at Dancspace, Inc., and enjoys an occasional Afro-Haitian class. She is a member of the National Storytellers Association and takes storytelling classes at the 92nd Street Y. Karen was recently featured in Margaret Velez's "Salsa Aerobics" exercise video.
