"The EveryWoman Series: The Red Thread
is monumental. Belilove steps forward as
one of the last remaining direct links to the legendary dancer and her work...Belilove remains today's leading exponent of
[Isadora Duncan's] legacy."

The EveryWoman Series: The Red Thread is an emotionally charged suite of dances, a
dynamic fusion of Duncan-inspired movements and contemporary ballet, further inspired
by the earthbound disciplines of African, Middle Eastern, Latin, and Asian dance. The
evening-length work was choreographed by Lori Belilove, Artistic Director of the Isadora
Duncan Dance Company. This fresh new work explores the feelings and experiences of
women at different phases of their lives, as children, maidens, mothers, guardians, and wise
women, and takes the audience on a journey illuminating the universal humanity and
untold stories of us all.
Using Duncan movement vocabulary as a base, Belilove expresses her perspective on the
feelings of the contemporary woman. “The Red Thread is the bloodline that binds us all as
humans. The EveryWoman Series: The Red Thread creates a bridge embracing rituals and
traditions as a means of connection and renewal among women.”
Dances
The journey unfolds with dances such as Looking for Love, Letting Go, Sharing Secrets,
On the Edge, Starting Over, The Answer is NO, and many more.
Music
The work is set to the music of Frederic Chopin's 24 Preludes performed live by the John
Link Project. Working collaboratively with the choreographer, composer and arranger John
Link prepared unique arrangements of the Chopin Preludes for five voices, guitar, bass,
drums, and violin.
Inspiration: Duncan and Chopin
Movement vocabulary from the revolutionary mother of modern dance Isadora Duncan
(1877-1927) and music from the sublime master composer Chopin (1810-49) root
and ground The EveryWoman Series: The Red Thread in the past, while the new
choreography and fresh arrangements move us forward with an utterly contemporary
expression.
Venues
The dances have been conceived to be performed in a variety of venues and, where possible,
accompanied by exhibitions of Stephanie Matthews’ fine art Red Thread Photographic
Collection. The Series can tour with Lori Belilove and The Isadora Duncan Dance Company
accompanied by a cast of dancers selected from the community including college and
university dance programs, children from local dance schools, and mature artists from other
dance disciplines. Depending upon budget, the production can be accompanied by live
music performed by the eight-member John Link Project. The approximate running time is 75 minutes without intermission. See Production Notes for full technical requirements.
