Basic Week - Introductory
June 2-6, 2008
Workshop: Mon-Fri 11:30am-5pm
With floor warm-up, barre and center, and improvisation to explore the movement. The pace of
this workshop will allow plenty of time to feel the progression of the movements.
Children's Workshop (Ages 6-11)
June 9-14, 2008
Workshop: Mon-Fri 11:30am-1pm
Showcase: Sat 4-7pm
Daily experience of the basic locomotive vocabulary that delights children so. Skips, runs,
double-skips and leaps, followed by slow center movements, partnering and improvisational studies.
Teen Workshop (Ages 12-18)
June 9-14, 2008
Workshop: Mon-Fri 1:30-5pm
Showcase: Sat 4-7pm
Daily technique of floor, barre and center, partnering and improvisational studies will be followed by
solo, duet and group studies in the repertory, including the Schubert Waltzes, Chopin Mazurkas,
and dances from the Gluck Operas: Air Gai Lento Air Gai, Allegretto, Gavotte.
NEW Teachers' Lab
June 8-14, 2008
Opening lecture & discussion: Sun 1-4pm
Lab: Mon-Fri 11:30am-5:30pm
Showcase: Sat 4-7pm
Overlaps with the Children and Teen workshops, giving participants an opportunity
to
teach
under observation and receive feedback and coaching.
Priority acceptance will be given to those
enrolled in
the Certification Program.
Advanced Intensive June
June 15-22, 2008
Introduction: Sun 15, 1-4pm
Workshop: Mon
16-Sat 21, 11:30am-5:30pm
Showcase: Sun 22, 12-5pm
Focuses on the Dionysian and Apollonian principles in Duncan's many choreographies,
including
the wild abandon of the Bacchanal and Scherzo, to the balanced, classical harmony in
such
works
as Slow March, Nocturne and Ave Maria.
Advanced Intensive July
July 20-25 (26), 2008
Introduction: Sun 20, 1-4pm
Workshop: Mon 21-Fri 25, 11:30am-5:30pm
Focuses on Duncan’s water dances, in preparation for the Alice Austen House performance
in Staten
Island. There will be barre and center, daily review of the locomotive vocabulary,
and repertory.

Join us for Duncan, Duncan, and more Duncan with your favorite teachers Lori Belilove and Cherlyn Smith
in the great city of New York! Isadora Duncan technique and repertory classes, field trips to New York
museums, Duncan video viewing, and discussion and tunic-making are only a few of the great experiences
that will be enjoyed during our 2008 Summer Intensive Workshops.
This year we offer programs for Children, Teens, Beginners, Advanced, and we're excited to announce,
a
brand new Teachers' Lab!
In addition to our end-of-session showcases, selected workshop participants will perform at the Donnell
Library Center, Manhattan, on on Tuesday, June 17th, and at Alice Austen House, Staten Island,
on Saturday, July 26th.
The workshops will be taught by Lori Belilove, the world's leading teacher and performer of the dance of
Isadora Duncan, and Cherlyn
Smith, Associate Artistic Director of the Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation. Students will work to increase
their technical and expressive capabilities in a positive and supportive environment. In the improvisational classes, students will work together and think in new ways, providing a basis for understanding the technique, repertory, composition and conceptual kinesthetic awareness.
